PANCREATIC CANCER RESEARCH

Dr. Angela Alistar

Nationally renowned gastrointestinal (GI) cancer researcher, Dr. Angela Alistar, is a board-certified medical oncologist with Atlantic Hematology Oncology, Atlantic Medical Group. Dr. Alistar is Medical Director of GI Medical Oncology at Morristown Medical Center’s Simon Cancer Center where she is also Medical Director of the Phase 1 Breakthrough Treatment Center.

Her research focus is related to immuno-oncology and cancer metabolism in gastrointestinal cancer such as: pancreatic tumors, cholangiocarcinoma, colorectal, esophageal, gastric cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma. Her clinical research projects involve active collaborative efforts with other medical departments, such as radiation oncology and surgical oncology, as well as genomics and cancer biology.

One of her most notable studies investigated a new anticancer drug called CPI-613, which selectively targets a process in cell multiplication. Results from Dr. Alistar’s early phase trial of CPI-613 in combination with FDA-approved FOLFIRINOX combination chemotherapy suggests improved response rate and survival in pancreatic cancer patients, and may herald a new form of cancer therapy. Dr. Alistar has initiated several clinical trials further examining the potential of this new drug in combination with chemotherapy, including some clinical trials only available at Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown NJ. (Source: Atlantic Health & Foundation for Morristown Medical Center

PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS

We believe awareness comes from education. Through presentations, outreach activities, and online and print information, we are dedicated to providing information to schools, individuals, health & medical professionals, and community groups.

First Art Contest

Jo-Ann Danzis Foundation invited several schools from Pennsylvania to participate in an art contest, entitled “A Message of Hope”. Sixty students from the Hazleton Area and Scranton School Districts submitted paintings. JADF staff went to the schools and provided an overview of pancreatic cancer to the students prior to their submittals. The students were excited to learn that their paintings would be displayed at the Morris Museum leading up to the Cork & Fork and then at the Simon Cancer Center as well.

World-Renowned Doctor Presented Pancreatic Cancer Research

The Jo-Ann Danzis Foundation sponsored a lecture given by the world renowned pancreatic cancer research leader, Daniel D. Von Hoff, M.D.  in October, 2018. The lecture, held at Morristown Medical Center, provided information  on his groundbreaking research on the  investigational use of anti-cancer compounds and phase I clinical trial data at Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center.  Dr. Von Hoff is Physician-in-Chief and Distinguished Professor at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in Phoenix, Arizona.

Introduced by physician researcher and medical director of GI medical oncology at Morristown Medical Center, Dr. Angela Alistar remarked, “Dr. Von Hoff is the most accomplished scientist in my world.”

Dr. Von Hoff’s lecture, “Improving Survival for Patients with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer,” was the inaugural research lecture of the Breakthrough Oncology Accelerator…Today’s lecture was sponsored by the Jo-Ann Danzis Foundation…. (Source: Tap Into Morristown)

Past Support

Prior to its current mission To Advance Pancreatic Cancer Research and Awareness through Charitable Giving, the Jo-Ann Danzis Foundation supported a broader range causes including (general) education and the arts. In an effort to “do more good”, we narrowed our view to focus solely on pancreatic cancer. To learn about our past efforts, click here
